Facility History
Raytheon, Canoga Park facility is an inactive facility and currently DTSC is reviewing its Closure Certification Report (CCR).
It has two known permitted units, a hazardous waste storage area (HWSA) and a waste oil tank T3. The HWSA is used to store containerized hazardous wastes such as flammables, nonflammables, and corrosives. The Tank T3 has a capacity of 4,000 gallons and was used to store waste oils and waste oil mixed with solvents. T3 was removed in 1988.

The Closure Plan was submitted in February 1995 and revised August 1995, as a result of Notices of Deficiencies (NODs) issued to Hughes Missile System Company (HMSC) by DTSC dated December 21, 1994 and June 6, 1995. On December 1995, the DTSC modified the Closure Plan dated August 1995 to reflect changes in the closure performance standards for certain VOCs, background from metals, and conditions under the Health and Safety Plan.

Raytheon submitted the Closure Certification Report (CCR) for the HWSA in 2002 and shortly after Raytheon requested a change of Project Manager (PM). The project was then transfer from Southern California to Northern California. However, due to staff changes in Raytheon and DTSC, the CCR was not evaluated until the middle of 2006.

August 2007 update - The CCR is being reviewed for closure. An RCRA Facility Assessment (RFA) is being drafted in anticipation of a Corrective Action Consent Agreement (CA) which is to address all outstanding in the HWSA and T3 plus a number of other Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs) and Areas of Concern (AOCs).
